SimpleShot support

Screenshots and screen recordings for Mac

Quick answers

Captures are black or show only the wallpaper

SimpleShot needs the Screen Recording permission. Open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording and turn on SimpleShot. If macOS asks to quit and reopen SimpleShot, do it.

A shortcut does nothing

Another app may use the same keys: choose different ones in SimpleShot › Settings › Shortcuts. If you use the standard screenshot keys (⇧⌘3, ⇧⌘4, ⇧⌘5, ⇧⌘6) and macOS keeps them, turn them off in System Settings › Keyboard › Keyboard Shortcuts › Screenshots.

Where are my captures?

Every capture is in the Library (⌥⇧⌘H). Saved files go to the folder in SimpleShot › Settings › Saving — the folder macOS uses for screenshots, the Desktop unless you changed it.

macOS asks again about the “private window picker”

About once a month macOS asks every screenshot and screen-recording app this again. Choose Allow: SimpleShot still reads the screen only when you take a capture.

SimpleShot is in the wrong language

SimpleShot speaks your Mac’s language. To pick another one for SimpleShot only: System Settings › General › Language & Region › Applications, add SimpleShot and choose the language.
